Vincent Gallo - “I Wrote This Song For The Girl Paris Hilton”
When

First off apologies to all our readers. We’ve been slacking the hardest and don’t we know it. But the summer has been full of soundtracks and we’re going to tell you all about them now that fall has rolled in.
You know that moment every year when it gets cold enough that you welcome melancholy music back into your heart? A friend once affectionally referred to it as “Elliott Smith Season.” I for one relish this time moment. There is something ever so refreshing about that gloomy, reflective kind of that feels just right for fall. I’m kicking off my melancholy music month with Vincent Gallo’s When.
To preface, this album isn’t new. This album was released in 2001—but in 2001 I was in grade seven and probably listening to Ja Rule. Sometimes you come late to the party, and luckily I’ve arrived.
This album is so slow, haunting and sigh-worthy but yet so beautiful. It is peaceful and dark at the same time. It is that perfect melancholy middle ground. I discovered the album while perusing a friends blog, on which she’d posted ‘I Wrote This Song For The Girl Paris Hilton.” A perfect soundtrack for the creepy and magically awe-inducing imagery she curates on her inspiring blog, the song tickled my fancy in just the right place. The album has since proven to be the perfect accompaniment for a hot cup of tea and a furious bout of writing. I thought it best to share it with all of you as the chill sets in.
Winter is coming.
